One of the best preserved classical temples in Greece.
Hephaestus the Greek god of fire, technology, blacksmiths, metal workers and the like. In the Roman context he was called Vulcan.
In legend he walked with a limp from being thrown out of Olympus by his mother for being sickly. In some traditions he was married to Aphrodite, who cheated on him with a number of other gods and mortals.
The temple, located just to the north-west of the Agora, it was inaugurated in 416BC after a lengthy period of construction.
