Pirgos: a 'cycladic' town

In the Cyclades islands is a style of architecture called 'cycladic'. This is characterized by linear, whitewashed houses often inviting comparisons to cubist art. Houses have flat roofs. Doors and window frames use saturated colors of blue but also green or red or brown.

See my Mykonos page for another city with cycladic architecture.

As for Pirgos, it is one of those towns to just wander around. The view on the left was not a composed scene, nor a special situation or museum. Just a street scene.

You'll enjoy wandering around the village of Pirgos. There are dozens of views like this.

The island is much quieter outside of Fira. You can be almost alone in many places.

A post office, a church, a park bench.

This generous fellow was so kind as to insistently call my attention to the lamentable fact that I had not yet taken my legally required Colorful Man on a Donkey photo, and then, even more kindly, did not make me pay very much for the honor of having done so.

Flowers, contrasting colors, composition and simplicity mark the cycladic style.

A little walkway wends carefully between a house and an elevated field, opening up to the infinite beyond.
