The Monastery of St. John, Theologian
Patmos, Greece

[g1017c.jpg - view of monastery ]

This is the view that greets you as you first enter the monastery by the main door on the north side. To your left if the chapel, ahead and to the right is the museum. The woman watches her child playing on the cistern, now containing holy water. Above and ahead are walkways to various monastery offices, and monk's cells. The museum contains some excellent exhibits including a 6th century text of the gospel of Mark, and the 11th century document founding the monastery as well as icons, art, and ecclesiastical garments.
