This is major civic and religious event. The crowd extended to the right of this photo for a long way.
The coast guard was there also.
The procession is worth your best pair of sneakers.
The band comes marching in.

After the service in the church the clergy came to the quay and continued chanting the liturgy. Young men prepared to jump in to retrieve the cross that would be thrown in the water.
Detail of the above. You cannot be an Orthodox priest if you can't chant.

After the ceremony people were invited to kiss the cross.
