Located to the SW of the Athens city center, this historic site has been a monastery for nearly a thousand years before being closed in modern times.
This is the icon of Jesus Christ, ruler of all, located in the ceiling of the main church.
The site is in a beautful setting on the wooded sloples of Mt. Hymettus.
Behind the walls was a functioning monastery. Rebuilt in the 50s it is no longer in use.
Inside the walls there is a cool and pleasant courtyard with the main church at one side.
Artwork in the church.
The cloud of witnesses: the saints.
Light, it is always about light.
The grounds have some inviting trails.
Climb up the hill to the viewpoint.
